The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and top national security agencies have reaffirmed their readiness to deliver a peaceful, transparent, and credible governorship election in Anambra State, scheduled for Saturday, November 8, 2025.
Speaking at the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES) meeting held at the INEC headquarters in Abuja, the Commission’s Chairman, Professor Joash Ojo Amupitan (SAN), said INEC is fully prepared for the exercise, with 24,000 personnel set to be deployed across 5,718 polling units.
He announced an extension of Permanent Voter Card (PVC) collection in Anambra from October 29 to November 2, to enable more eligible voters to collect their cards and participate in the election.
“The credibility of our democracy depends on what happens in Anambra,” Amupitan declared. “Every vote must count, every voter must be safe, and every officer must perform their duty with integrity.”
The INEC Chairman emphasized that the Commission has concluded logistics arrangements with major transport unions, including NATO, NURTW, and MUWN, to ensure smooth movement of personnel and materials. He also warned against vote buying, describing it as a major threat to Nigeria’s democracy.
Representing the National Security Adviser (NSA), Hassan Abdullahi disclosed that robust security measures, including enhanced surveillance and intelligence gathering, have been deployed to deter violence and ensure safety before, during, and after the polls.
“Any attempt by desperate politicians or groups to undermine the election will be met with a firm and uncompromising response,” Abdullahi warned.
The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, announced that pre-election clearance operations would begin on November 1 to identify potential troublemakers. He also confirmed that movement will be restricted on election day, with all entry and exit routes into Anambra heavily manned.
“Only federal security officers will have operational roles. Vigilante groups and state security outfits will have no place in this election,” Egbetokun said.
The coordinated operation, led by the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA), marks one of the largest election security deployments in Nigeria’s history underscoring a renewed federal commitment to ensuring that Anambra 2025 is peaceful, credible, and decisive.
