TCN Says Collapse of Transmission Towers Affects 33kV Feeders at Keffi and Akwanga Substations, To Commence Preventive Maintenance At Ijebu-Ode Transmission Substation


The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) hereby informs the public that all 33kV outgoing feeders at the 132/33kV Keffi and 132/33kV Akwanga Transmission Substations are currently unavailable following the collapse of Towers T78, T79 and T80 along the Karu-Keffi-Akwanga 132kV Transmission Line corridor.

The management in a statement said At about 1606hrs Wednesday, 7th October 2026, during rainy and windy conditions, the 132kV Karu-Keffi-Akwanga Single Circuit Transmission Line tripped on overcurrent relay protection. Investigations revealed that three transmission towers have collapsed. TCN promptly isolated for safety.

Consequently, all 33kV outgoing feeders at the Keffi and Akwanga Transmission Substations are presently unavailable. No load can therefore be nominated on the affected feeders on the interim.

TCN engineers are currently on site, to assess the extent of the damage to enable them determine requirements needed to commence restoration activities.

The Company regrets the inconvenience this development will cause electricity customers taking supply from substations affected by the tower incident.

Please bear with us as we make every effort to ensure that necessary repairs are completed as quickly as possible to enable the restoration of bulk power supply.

Kindly note that we will continue to provide further updates as restoration efforts progress.

Similarly, The Company said its maintenance crew will also carry out scheduled annual preventive maintenance on the T1 and T2 30MVA, 132/33kV power transformers at the Ijebu-Ode Transmission Substation on Thursday and Friday, 8th and 9th October 2026, respectively, from 10:00am to 5:00pm each day.

The maintenance will be carried out on one transformer per day to enable TCN engineers undertake routine checks and servicing required to ensure the optimal performance and reliability of the transformers.

Consequently, Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) will be unable to offtake electricity from the affected transformer during the maintenance period each day. On Thursday, 8th October, maintenance will be carried out on the T1 30MVA transformer, affecting electricity supply to Ijebu-Ode and Idowa. On Friday, 9th October, maintenance will be carried out on the T2 30MVA transformer, affecting electricity supply to Ijebu-Igbo and Barracks.

Bulk power supply will be restored to each transformer at the end of its scheduled maintenance day.

The TCN apologizes for any inconvenience the exercise will cause electricity consumers in the affected areas.
