The Agricultural Research Council of Nigeria (ARCN) has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) as a critical pathway for developing skilled manpower and accelerating Nigeria’s agricultural transformation.
Khadijat Oluwatoyin Ameen, Public relations officer to the executive secretary in a statement adds that the representing the Executive Secretary, ARCN, at the Nigeria TVET Landscape & Project Presentation Stakeholder Workshop held on 30 September 2026, the Director, TVET and Agricultural Awarding Body, Mr. Husseni Gbogbon Dabban, delivered the Executive Secretary’s welcome address.
The Executive Secretary emphasized that Nigeria’s agricultural transformation requires not only research and innovation, but also well-trained technicians, technologists, entrepreneurs and skilled professionals capable of converting knowledge and technologies into practical solutions.
He called for stronger agricultural institutions focused on competency-based training, digital agriculture, mechanisation, agro-processing, biotechnology, climate-smart agriculture, agribusiness and entrepreneurship.
The workshop, involving government institutions, development partners, academia, agricultural colleges and industry stakeholders, is expected to identify gaps and opportunities within Nigeria’s TVET landscape and develop practical recommendations for repositioning the sector.
The ARCN also stressed the importance of connecting research, innovation, training, extension and commercialisation, ensuring that agricultural innovations move beyond laboratories and reach farmers, processors, entrepreneurs and other end users.
The Council commended WUSC and CICan for facilitating the engagement and called for practical, solution-oriented discussions capable of producing measurable results in skills development, employability, entrepreneurship and agricultural productivity.
ARCN remains committed to building a skilled workforce for a more productive and sustainable Nigerian agricultural sector.
