The Armed Forces of Nigeria,(AFN) says it has carried out stabilization operations which has resulted in the restoration of over 1 million Households in Kukawa, Munguno and Kekenu communities.
The theater Commander, Joint Task Force Operation Hadin Ka i(OPHK), Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar made this known while briefing Defence Correspondents on tour of the Operation in Maiduguri on Wednesday, 21st, January, 2025.
General Abubakar added that since the last quarter of 2025, troops have neutralized 5 terrorist leaders,3 members,, arrested 15 would Be suicide bombers.
“Stabilization operations are basically carried out in the theater to create the enabling environment for socio-economic activities to return to areas that were attempted to abandon because of the insurgency so that citizens can return back to their ancestral home to carry out their normal means of gaining a livelihood.
“This has been done severally in different communities in the theater, to include Malamfatori where we have phase one, phase two, and phase three resettlement. Over a million households have been resettled in Malamfatori as we speak.
“The same applies to Kukawa, which is now a thriving town. If you take a ride into Kukawa, you will not believe the kind of socioeconomic activities that are taking place there. Then recently we resettled Kekenu.
“Stabilization operations are also ongoing in Meirari. Meirari is about 30 kilometers from Mongunu town too. This is significant. So if we are able to do that, we are almost 80% done with support from the Borno state government. Then we are assured that those citizens can return back to their normal livelihood.”
The theater Commander added that the military’s stabilization operations has also resulted in the establishment of a Forward Operating Base (FOB) and fixing of Duji bridge, the only connecting bridge linking Nigeria with the Republic of Niger, which was hitherto destroyed by Boko Haram and deserted for over 10 years.
Speaking of challenges faced in line of operation, General Abubakar said terrorists leverage on the bad road network to plant improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) and to mitigate this menace, the Theater Command is working hard to ensure that some of the roads are rehabilitated.
“We have procured some materials to fill some of the potholes so that we can deny the terrorists the opportunity to plant IEDs on these roads,” he said.
General Abubakar also disclosed that the command is partnering the Unites State in intelligence gathering in taking out terrorists in the region.
" We are leveraging on the Partnership with the Unites States in taking out terrorists through intelligence," he said.
The media tour organised by Defence Headquarters (DHQ) is aimed at giving first hand information of activities of all military operations to Defence Correspondents to curb misinformation, disinformation and Fake News.
