The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Federal Ministry of Education in collaboration with Core International (Core) supported by Financial Markets Indaba are pleased to formally launch the Nigerian Capital Market – Secondary Schools Quiz Competition. The competition is a national initiative aims to promote financial literacy, enhance understanding of capital markets, and equip Nigeria’s youth with essential financial knowledge and foundational decision-making skills.
The competition will run for six months commencing in September 2025 and will involve 370 schools, 10 from each state of Nigeria and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). There will be a three-stage academic tournament as follows: State-level preliminaries, Zonal semi-finals, National grand finale.
The programme fosters a spirit of academic excellence, teamwork, and inclusivity by ensuring representation across Nigeria’s diverse educational landscape and offering equal participation from public and private institutions. The joint initiative will be hosted on the Financial Markets Indaba platform, a sister organisation of Core International, that possesses experience in financial literacy initiatives and national engagement capabilities, thereby supporting the program’s reach.
Beyond the competition itself, the initiative encompasses key educational components for teachers to undergo a dedicated training workshop to support student preparation and facilitate long-term curriculum integration of financial literacy. Additionally, participating students will access a Virtual Trading Platform that simulates real-time stock trading using the Nigerian Exchange Group (NGX) market data, offering hands-on experience with investment concepts in a risk-free environment.
Through this programme, students will explore key areas including savings, investment, stock markets, and economic development, while also competing for national recognition and prizes. The collaboration ensures professional oversight, content alignment with national education standards, and integrity in adjudication, supported by representatives from all partnering organisations.
Operating under the theme "Empowering Future Investors through Knowledge", the Nigerian Capital Market – Secondary Schools Quiz Competition directly supports the SEC’s mandate of investor protection and market development by nurturing a financially literate generation, thereby strengthening the foundations of Nigeria’s future economy and fostering a more robust and inclusive capital market for sustainable national growth.
