The Defence Headquarters says troops of the Armed Forces of Nigeria recorded major operational gains against terrorism, banditry and other forms of criminality across the country in the month of July through sustained military offensives across the country.
The military added that hundreds of kidnapped victims were rescued, scores of terrorists neutralised, and several criminal suspects arrested.
The Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Michael Onoja in his monthly press briefing stated that troops alongside other security agencies and local vigilante groups, rescued 393 kidnapped victims, arrested 345 terrorists and other criminal suspects, and neutralised more than 102 terrorists during operations conducted in July.
He added that 57 insurgents surrendered to troops, while 59 firearms and 1,811 rounds of ammunition were recovered. Military operations also led to the destruction of several terrorist camps, logistics bases and illegal refining sites.
Major General Onoja further noted that the Chief of Defence Staff commended troops for their professionalism and dedication, particularly in the successful rescue of 44 pupils and teachers abducted in Oyo State without paying any ransom or making concessions to their captors.
As expected, the Defence Headquarters reaffirm commitment to its mandate of ensuring territorial safety.
