MAJOR GENERAL IBIKUNLE AJOSE, BOWS OUT IN GRAND STYLE, LAUDED FOR PROACTIVE LEADERSHIP, BOOSTED MORALS

...As 8 Division, Nigerian Army Honours Him 


Headquarters 8 Division Nigerian Army and Sector 2 Joint Task Force Northwest Operation FANSAN YAMMA(OPFY) hosted a vibrant and heartfelt sendforth ceremony to celebrate the distinguished service of the outgoing General Officer Commanding (GOC) 8 Division and Commander Sector 2 OPFY Major General Ibikunle Ademola Ajose, alongside other posted out officers at the Eagle Officers’ Mess, Giginya Barracks, Sokoto. 

Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osaoba, Acting Deputy Director Army Public Relations of Division Nigerian Army said Major General Ajose in his farewell message expressed profound gratitude for the privilege of leading the Division as its 10th GOC. Reflecting on his tenure, he described the experience as one of the greatest honours of his military career. 

He commended the personnel for their loyalty, professionalism, discipline and unwavering commitment to duty, emphasizing their resilience in the face of adversity. "Together, we faced challenges, upheld our mandate and served our nation with courage and integrity. Your dedication to the ideals of the Nigerian Army has been truly commendable." he said. 

Major General Ajose expressed full confidence in the Division’s leadership, capability and fighting spirit as he prepared to handover command. He urged personnel to remain steadfast and united and continue to uphold the honour and traditions of the Nigerian Army. He stated that he will be leaving the Division with immense pride in what have been achieved together and with gratitude for the privilege of leading such outstanding men and women.

Earlier In his welcome remarks, Brigadier General Abdulmalik Mohammed, Commander of 8 Division Garrison, praised Major General Ajose as a distinguished leader, mentor and father figure. He highlighted the GOC’s transformative impact since assuming command in July 2024, noting his proactive leadership style and strategic foresight.

Brigadier General Mohammed stated that under Major General AJose's Command, the Division witnessed a leadership approach that was not merely reactivated but powerfully proactive. He said the outgoing GOC anticipated challenges and positioned the Division to overcome them, ensuring the Division remained ahead in fulfilling its operational mandate. He emphasized that Major General Ajose’s legacy extends beyond improved infrastructure and operational readiness but will also serve as a lasting example for future generations.


The ceremony was attended by a host of dignitaries, including the Special Adviser on Security Matters to the Sokoto State Governor, Commissioner of Police, Sokoto State and Director of the Department of State Services (Sokoto State). Others include Members of the Nigerian Bar Association, Sokoto Branch and distinguished guests

The event featured cultural dance performances showcasing the rich heritage of the region, a grand dinner in honour of the outgoing GOC and other posted out officers and presentation of certificates of service and gifts as well as group photographs capturing the camaraderie and spirit of the occasion.
