The Theatre Commander Joint Task Force North East Operation HADIN KAI (NE OPHK), Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar on Tuesday 5 August 2025, called on troops to maintain their momentum in the fight against terrorism and insurgency in the North East region.
Captain Reuben Kovangiya Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, Headquarters Theatre Command Operation HADIN KAI in a statement said the commander gave the charge during his separate addresses to troops of Headquarters 5 Brigade and 145 Battalion Damasak, 149 Battalion (Main) Gubio, as well as Forward Operating Base Magumeri, whilst on operational assessment to these locations.
He relayed the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa OFR and Service Chiefs’ commendations to troops for their determination in the fight against insurgency. He noted that he was on the visit, to interact with them, assess their operational and administrative states, and also charge them to remain resilient in the fight.
While harping on their welfare, the Theatre Commander relayed the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede NAM assurances, that troops’ welfare remained his topmost priority, as reinforced in his Command Philosophy, which places emphasis on welfare and sound administration.
The Theatre Commander stressed the importance of recognising and rewarding troops exceptional performance and professionalism through different welfare packages emplaced by the COAS.
Earlier, the Theatre Commander was received at the quarter guard and presented with briefs on the operational activities of the formations and units. He commended the Commanders and Commanding Officers for their leadership, and urged them to redouble their efforts, while appreciating the soldiers and assuring them of Headquarters OPHK's sustained support.
Significantly, during the visit, the Theatre Commander performed the commissioning of the MI-35 Strong Point of about 75 metres elevation with a commanding view constructed by the Commanding Officer Lieutenant Colonel Abdullahi Manu, at Forward Operating Base Magumeri. He also performed tree planting as part of the greening of the environment around troops location.
The Theatre Commander was accompanied by Component Commanders, formation Commanders and staff officers of Headquarters Theatre Command.
