A 79-year-old woman, Collen Mero Yesufu and her family have called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intervene in a land dispute that has been ongoing for years. The woman alleges that she has been denied access to her rightful property despite having legal documents to support her claim.
The elderly woman is seeking the president's assistance in resolving the matter, citing the emotional and financial distress caused by the prolonged dispute.
Speaking through a human right group, the Initiative Against Human Rights Abuse and Torture in Abuja (INAHURAT), her case underscores the importance of ensuring that justice is served and that the rights of the elderly is protected.
INAHURAT’s Director of Legal, Maxwell Chibuike Opara Esq, while giving updates on the Criminal Case of Serious Land Document Forgery, Trespass, and Fraud involving Rebecca Omokamo Isaac (AKA Bilikisu Ishaku Aliyu).
INAHURAT, however, expressed concerns over alleged police complicity in a land fraud case involving Rebecca Omokamo Isaac, a close associate of the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr. Kayode Egbetokun.
Rebecca Omokamo Isaac is accused of forging land title documents, stealing, and fraudulently selling properties worth billions of Naira.
" Despite facing criminal charges, the suspect allegedly enjoys police protection, with armed policemen guarding her at the disputed property."
The group calls on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to enforce court-sanctioned forfeiture orders issued against the properties.
"We urge the President to investigate the IGP's conduct in this matter and hold accountable any officers who have abused their powers while reminding the judiciary to remain vigilant against abuse and ensure that justice is served
" Rebecca Omokamo Isaac has been charged to court in three separate cases, including forgery, criminal trespass, and advance fee fraud offences."
They commend the EFCC for showing commitment to ensuring justice is served despite attempts at intimidation and interference.
The organization's demands aim to ensure that the rule of law is upheld and justice is served. It also stresses that the president's intervention could help to bring a swift resolution to the matter and provide relief to the elderly woman.
The group also staged a protest at the headquarters of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission ( EFCC ) to demand a call on the commission’s chairman to publish and advertise the forfeiture court orders on the said properties.
The protesters also urged the commission to allow the law to take its course.
“When EFCC operatives arrived to effect her arrest for jumping bail, they were prevented from carrying out their lawful operation by the several fully armed police officers guarding her.
“We possess hard evidence showing that it was the former FCT Police Commissioner, Mr. Tunji Disu, who eventually arrived in his official car to rescue her from the scene.
Barr. Opara said the matter had been duly investigated by the (EFCC), which uncovered disturbing evidence of document forgery and fraud, including the falsification of Power of Attorney’s, AGIS Title’s, Signatures, and various CAC Company documents."
