In a bid to further strengthen it's service of safe keeping lives and property, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command has successfully trained 135 personnel on Basic Arms and Weapons Handling in the command headquarters at Wuse, Zone 5, Abuja.
Speaking at the passing out parade, the FCT Commandant, Olusola Odumosu PhD, said, the training will help the Command to fulfil the Corps' mandate of ensuring that the Country's Critical National Assets and Infrastructure are effectively protected from acts of vandalism.
"This is a worthy step taken to curb the challenges of vandalism and other vices hampering the peace and development of the Federal Territory" the Commandant said.
Dr. Odumosu also disclosed that from January till date, the Command has arrested over one hundred and twenty persons suspected to have engaged in vandalizing public facilities and theft, adding that out of these numerous cases, the corps has secured court convictions while some are still ongoing.
The number 1 NSCDC boss in the FCT added that with the new trainees, the Command is better positioned to surpass the achievements of the Corps' so far in the fight against vandalism and the protection of lives and property.
He while congratulating the graduands assured that Nigerians can rely on the Corp for protection of lives and property. He also appreciated the FCT minister Bar. Nyesom Wike for his unalloyed support to the NSCDC FCT Command.
"In discharge of of your duties, always remember the rules of engagement, be professional in handling your riffles, protect yourself, protect your riffles, protect lives and property" he noted.
"His empowerment of the command through the provision of operational vehicles, motorcycles and other operational gadgets has been an immense boost to our capability".
Commandant Odumosu expectedly assured of the Command' s commitment on delivering on her mandate towards enhancing peace and security in the FCT.
The Minister of FCT, Barrister Nyesom Wike who was representative by the Director of Security, Federal Capital Territory Administration, (FCTA), Adamu Buba Gwary, expressed said the gallant nature exhibited by the armed trained personnel no doubt shows that the trained personnel will be a boost to the security architecture in the FCT.
He commended the FCT Commandant for providing the necessary tools for his officers and charged personnel to ensure roles of engagement at all times.
Director State Security Services, DSS, FCT, Isaac Chikere and the Federal Road Safety Corp FCT, Chorrie Muta'a in their good will messages pledge support to the Corp. They harp on the benefits of the existing synergy between their organizations and the FCT command NSCDC and promise to continue in same light.
Highlight of the day was Passing Out Parade by trainees, unarmed combat display, silent drills and award presentation to outstanding graduands.
