TROOPS NEUTRALIZES 253, ARREST 172 TERRORISTS, RECOVERS ASSORTED ARMS, AMMUNITION


The Defence Headquarters has said the armed forces remains steadfast in its role as  an element of national power utilised  to protect and project the  national interest of the nation. Accordingly,  ongoing operations across the country are in support of national security interest.  

The Director Defence Media Operations,Major General Edward Buba while giving review of the past week in a press statement said troops neutralised 253 and arrested 172 persons. 

Gen. Buba also disclosed that troops also arrested 15 perpetrators of oil theft and rescued 206 kidnapped hostages. In the SS, troops denied the oil theft of the estimated sum of One Billion Seventy Three Million Eight Hundred and Twenty Nine Thousand Five Hundred Naira (N1,073,829,500.00) only.

Furthermore, troops recovered 251 assorted weapons and 4,113 assorted ammunition. The breakdown as follows: one GPMG, 118 AK47 rifles, 54 locally fabricated gun, 47 dane guns, 6 pump action guns, 2 locally fabricated pump action guns, 5 double barrel guns, 4 single barrel guns, 4 locally fabricated pistol, 4 IED, 60mm mortar tube, 2 AK butts, MRAP and one bandolier.

Others are: 2,047 rounds of 7.62mm special ammo, 942 rounds of 7.62mm NATO, 98 rounds of 9mm ammo, 342 rounds of 7.62 x 54mm, 334 rounds of 7.62 x 39mm, 252 rounds of 7.62 x 51mm, 110 rounds of 7.62 x 39mm ball, 299 live cartridges, 32 magazines, 2 baofeng radios, 2 KYD radios, 8 vehicles, 41 motorcycles, 27 bicycles, 41 mobile phones and the sum of N74,702,320.00 only amongst other items.

He said troops in the Niger Delta area discovered and destroyed 22 dugout pits, 37 boats, 70 drums, 4 receiver, 4 reservoirs and 29 storage tanks.  Other items recovered include 215 cooking ovens, 13 vehicles, 4 wheelbarrows, one tricycle, one motorcycle, 5 mobile phones, one speedboat, 2 KYD radios, 2 outboard engines and 75 illegal refining sites. Troops recovered 1,047,050 litres of stolen crude oil and 205,550 litres of illegally refined AGO. 

General Buba noted that the operations across the country are a testament of the tireless effort of the military  to prevent  anarchy, unrest and national security destabilization. For these reasons,  the armed forces is deserving of the  pride of place  as the nations symbol of national unity and resilience. 

"Based on the foregoing, it is instructive for citizens to extend utmost respect for their armed forces, rather than  degraded the institution. It would be counterproductive and amounts to self sabotage to do otherwise," he cautions.

REPORT ON ONGOING MILITARY OPERATIONS BY THE ARMED FORCES OF NIGERIA AS AT 24 MAY 2024

JOINT TASK FORCE OPERATION HADIN KAI (NORTH EAST)

1. Troops of Operation HADIN KAI recorded the following activities during the period under review; troops had meeting engagement with BH/ISWAP terrorists, surrendering of BH/ISWAP/JAS terrorists fighters and families, conducted offensive operations, fighting patrols, ambush operations and arrest of suspected BH/ISWAP terrorists collaborators and informants in Bama, Mafa, Dikwa, Gwoza, Kukawa and Mobbar LGAs of Borno State as well as Geidam and Gujba LGAs of Yobe State.

2.      Details as follows:

a. Meeting Engagement. On 13 May 2024, combined troops in conjunction with hybrid forces while on offensive operation successfully repelled ISWAP/JAS terrorists attack in Bama LGA of Borno State. Following a fire fight, troops neutralized 23 terrorists and recovered 12 AK47 rifles, 8 fabricated rifles, 7 dane guns, 2 double barrel guns, one single barrel gun, 211 rounds of 7.62mm special ammo, 101 rounds of 7.62mm NATO, 76 rounds of 7.62 x 54mm, 98 live cartridges, 2 IEDs, one baofeng radio, 6 motorcycles and 3 bicycles amongst others.

b. Surrender of ISWAP/JAS Terr Family Members. 

(1)     Between 14 and 15 May 2024, 95 BH/ISWAP/JAS terrorists fighters and their families comprising of 18 Adult males, 22 adult females and 55 children surrendered to troops in Mafa, Dikwa, Gwoza, Bama, Kukawa and Mobbar LGAs of Borno State. Troops recovered 19 AK47 rifles, 5 fabricated guns, 13 magazines, 691 rounds of 7.62mm special ammo, 241 rounds of 7.62mm NATO, 4 magazines, 11 motorcycles, 15 bicycles and 5 mobile phone amonsgt other.

(2)     Between 15 and 21 May 24, a total of 455 terrorists comprising 29 adult males, 158 adult females and 268 children surrendered to troops within the theatre of operations.

c. Offensive Operations.

(1)    On 14 and 15 May 2024, troops with hybrid forces in a separate offensive operations made contact with BH/ISWAP terrorists in Bama LGA of Borno State. Following a fire fight, troops neutralized 31 terrorists and recovered 14 AK47 rifles, 11 dane guns, 231 rounds of 7.62mm special, 97 rounds of 7.62 x 51mm ammo, 171 rounds of 7.62 x 54mm NATO ammo, 8 magazines, 2 IEDs, one AK47 rifle butt, one MRAP, 2 motorcycles, 4 bicycles and 2 mobile phones amongst others.

(2)     Between 15 and 21 May 2024, troops in  separate offensive operations made contact with BH/ISWAP/JAS terrorists in Gwoza, Bama, Konduga, Damboa and Kaga LGAs of Borno State as well as Madagali LGA of Adamawa State . Following a fire fights, troops neutralized 42 terrorists and rescued 60 kidnapped hostages. Troops also recovered one GPMG, 23 AK47 rifles, 8 fabricated rifles, 19 dane guns, 227 rounds of 7.62mm special ammo, 357 rounds of 7.62 x  51mm ammo, 2 vehicles, 2 motorcycles, 19 bicycles and a bag of gun powder amongst others.

d. Ambush on ISWAP/JAS Terrorists.  On 14 May 2024, troops while on patrol ambush suspected ISWAP/JAS terrorists fighters in Gwoza LGA. Following a fire fight, troops neutralized 12 terrorists and recovered 7 AK47 rifles, 3 dane guns, 3 fabricated AK47 rifles, 110 rounds of 7.62mm special, 212 rounds of 7.62 x 39mm NATO, 5 motorcycles and one mobile phone amonsgt others.

e. Arrest of Suspected BH/ISWAP Terrorists collaborators.

(1)      On 14 and 15 May 2024, following reports, troops arrested 7 suspected BH/ISWAP terrorists collaborators and informant in Geidam and Gujba LGAs of Yobe State as well as Mobbar and Kaga LGAs of Borno State. During the operations, troops recovered one vehicle, 2 bicycles, 5 mobile phones and the sum of N18,590.00 only amongst others.

(2)      Between 15 and 18 May 2024, troops with hybrid forces in separate sting operations arrested 18 suspected BH/ISWAP/JAS terrorists collaborators and informants in Kukawa, Biu, Gamboru - Ngala, Konduga and Dikwa LGAs of Borno State. Troops recovered 2 vehicles, 5 mobile phones and the sum of N73,225,990.00 only amongst others.

f. Fighting Patrol.  On 15 May 2024, troops while on fighting patrol made contact with BH/ISWAP terrorists in Gwoza LGA of Borno State. Following a fire fight, troops neutralized 5 terrorists and recovered 4 AK47 rifles, one dane gun, one 60mm mor tube, one bandolier, 3 magazines, 155 rounds of 7.62 x 51mm ammo and one bicycle.

g. Handover of Rescued Hostages. On 20 May 2024, a total of 350 victims comprising 6 adult males, 135 adult females and 209 children rescued from ISWAP/JAS enclaves during offensive operations in Sambisa Forest were handed over to Borno State Government commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs Aisha Zuyera Gana.

3. Air Interdiction.  Following ISR on activities of over 200 BH/ISWAP/JAS terrorists with their logistics hybernating South of Tumbun Fulani and Dogon Chuku. On 13 and 14 May 2024, air interdiction was conducted on the acquired targets. Battle Damage Assessment revealed that several terrorists were neutralized, and  their structures as well as logistics  destroyed.


SUMMARY

4. Overall, troops of Operation HADIN KAI neutralized 133 terrorists, arrested 35 suspects and rescued 82 kidnappers hostages. Troops recovered 78 AK47 rifles, 24 fabricated rifles, 41 dane guns, 2 double barrel guns, one single barrel gun, one mortar tube, one MRAP, 4 IEDs, 24 magazines, 1,470 rounds of 7.62mm special, 342 rounds of 7.62mm NATO, 247 rounds of 7.62 x 54mm, 609 rounds of 7.62 x 51mm, 212 rounds of 7.62 x 39mm, 98 live cartridges, one bandolier, one AK47 butt, 26 magazines, one baofeng radio, 26 motorcycles, 44 bicycles, 18 mobile phones and the sum of N73,225,990.00 only amongst others.


JOINT TASK FORCE OPERATION SAFE HAVEN (NORTH CENTRAL)

5.     Troops of Operation SAFE HAVEN recorded the following during the period under review; troops arrested violent extremists/terrorists and rescued kidnapped hostages in Sanga and Zango Kataf LGAs of Kaduna State.


6.     Details are as follows: 

a. Arrest. 

(1)    On 14 and 16 May 2024, troops in separate operations raided suspected violent extremists/terrorists hideouts in Jema’a and Sanga LGAs of Kaduna State. During the operations, troops arrested 4 suspected violent extremists and recovered 2 mobile phones.

(2)   Between 16 and 21 May 2024, troops in separate operations arrested 7 suspected violent extremists and notorious kidnappers in Sanga LGA of Kaduna State as well as in Mangu, Jos South and East LGAs of Plateau State. During the operations, troops recovered one AK47 rifle loaded with 28 rounds of 7.62mm special ammo, one locally made pistol, 4 cartridges, 2 motorcycles, 3 mobile phones and the sum of N22,590.00 only amongst others.

b. Rescue of Kidnapped Victim. On 15 May 2024, sequel to kidnapping incident on 12 May 2024, troops conducted search and rescue operation in Zango Kataf LGA of Kaduna State. During the operation, troops intercept and rescued one kidnapped hostage.

c. Offensive Operations.  On 21 May 2024, troops with DSS operatives in separate raid operations arrested 9 violent extremists and recovered one dane gun, one motorcycles, 3 cutlasses and one knife in Jos North and Barkin Ladi LGAs of Plateau State.

d. Counter/Anti Kidnapping Operations. On 16 and 20 May 2024, troops in separate counter/anti kidnapping operations arrested one suspected violent extremist and rescued one kidnapped hostage in Barkin Ladi LGA of Plateau State.

e. Incident Report. On 20 May 2024 following gunmen attacked on Zurak Community in Wase LGA of Plateau State. Earlier on the same day, troops in conjunction with DSS personnel and Hybrid Forces DSS with hybrid forces raided some locations ahead of the Community, engaged the violent extremists in firefights and neutralized 10. Troops fire power force the fleeing extremists to withdrew towards Zurak Community. While withdrawing, criminals carried out a counter attack that killed 18 villagers and 2 personnel of the Hybrid Forces. On confirmation of the counter attack, troops reinforce and neutralized several of the violent extremist. Troops recovered 6 AK47 rifles, 8 dane guns, 11 fabricated rifles 9 cutlasses 189 rounds of 7.62mm special ammo. Troops are deployed to the location, thereby restoring law and order.


SUMMARY

7. Overall, troops of Operation SAFE HAVEN neutralized 13 insurgents, arrested 51 violent extremists and rescued 17 kidnapped hostages. Troops recovered 7 AK47 rifle, 9 dane gun, 11 fabricated rifles, one locally made pistol, 217 rounds of 7.62mm special ammo, 4 live cartridges, 3 motorcycles 12 cutlasses, 5 mobile phones and the sum of N22,590.00 amongst others.



OPERATION WHIRL STROKE (NORTH CENTRAL)

8. Troops of Operation WHIRL STROKE recorded the following during the week under review; arrested suspected violent extremists and conducted counter/anti kidnapping operations in Makurdi and Ukum LGAs of Benue State as well as Bali and Akwanga LGAs of Taraba and Nasarawa States.


9. Details are as follows: 

a. Arrested of Suspected Violent Extremists.  

(1)     On 13 May 2024, troops while on snap check intercepted and arrested one suspected violent extremist identified as Mr Igbayima Ephesian in Makurdi LGA of Benue State. During the operations, troops recovered one locally made pistol.

(2)    On 16 and 19 May 2024, troops in separate snap checks operations arrested 4 suspected violent extremists/terrorists in Bali and Akwanga LGAs of Taraba and Nasarawa States respectively. During the operations, troops recovered 2 locally made pistols, 2 dane guns, 90 rounds of 7.62mm special ammo, 60 rounds of 7.62mm NATO, 22 cartridges, one handcuff, 3 mobile phones and the sum of N4,600.00 only.

b. Counter/Anti Kidnapping Operations. On 16 May 2024, troops responded to distress call on armed robbery activities and made contact with violent extremists/terrorists in Ukum LGA of Benue State. Following a fire fight, troops neutralized 4 insurgents and recovered recovered 3 pistols, 22 rounds of 9mm ammo and one motorcycles.


SUMMARY

10. Overall, troops of Operation WHIRL STROKE neutralized 11 terrorists, 

arrested 7 violent extremists and rescued 3 kidnapped hostages. Troops recovered 5 locally made pistols, 2 dane guns, 90 rounds of 7.62mm special ammo, 60 rounds 

of 7.62mm NATO, 22 live cartridges, 22 rounds of 9mm ammo, one motorcycle, 3 mobile phones and the sum of N4,600.00 only amongst others.


JOINT TASK FORCE OPERATION HADARIN DAJI (NORTH WEST)

11. The troops of Operation HADARIN DAJI recorded the following during the period under review; offensive operations, ambush operation and rescued kidnapped hostages in Batsari, Danmusa and Faskari LGAs of Katsina State as well as Sabon Birni and Kaura Namoda LGAs of Sokoto and Zamfara States.


12.    Details are as follows;

a. Offensive Operations. 

(1)   On 14 and 15 May 2024, troops in separate offensive operations made contact with terrorists in Sabon Birni and Batsari LGAs of Sokoto and Katsina States as well as Kaura Namoda LGA of Zamfara State. Following a fire fight, troops neutralized 7 and recovered 5 fabricated rifles, 2 dane guns, 3 magazines, 108 rounds of 7.62mm NATO, 76 rounds of 7.62 x 39mm and 2 mobile phones amongst others.

(2)    Between 15 and 20 May 2024, troops in separate offensive operations made contact with terrorists in Birnin Gwari, Chikun and Igabi LGAs of Kaduna State as well as Kaura Namoda, Tsafe, Anka and Maru LGAs of Zamfara State respectively. Following a fire fight, troops neutralized 12 terrorists, arrested 2 suspected terrorists and rescued 28 kidnapped hostages. Troops also recovered 7 AK47 rifles, 4 fabricated rifles, 2 single barrel guns, 111 rounds of 7.62mm special ammo, 194 rounds of 7.62mm NATO, 4 magazines and 6 motorcycles amongst others.

b. Ambush on Terrorists. On 14 May 2024, troops while on fighting patrol ambushed  terrorist in Danmusa LGA of Katsina State. Following a fire fight, troops neutralized 13 terrorists and recovered 5 pump action guns, 3 locally made double barrels gun, one locally fabricated pistol, 78 rounds of 7.62 x 39mm ball, 32 rounds of 9mm ammo, 132 live cartridges, 3 motorcycles, one baofeng radio and military accoutrements amongst others.

c. Rescue of Kidnapped Victim. On 14 May 2024, troops while on patrol rescued kidnapped hostages in Faskari LGA of Katsina State. The rescue hostage,  was abducted about 54 days earlier in Tsafe LGA of Zamfara State.

d.       Counter/Anti - Kidnapping Operations. On 15 and 18 May 2024, troops while conducting counter/anti kidnapping operations made contact with terrorists in Ungogo and Sakaba LGAs of Kano and Kebbi States respectively. Following a fire fight, troops neutralized 3 terrorists, arrested a kidnapper and rescued a kidnapped hostage. Troops also recovered 2 locally fabricated gun, 36 rounds of 7.62mm NATO, one mob phone and sum of ₦311,050.00 only among other items.

e.       Troops Responded to terrorists Activities. Between 17 and 21 May 2024, troops in separate operations responded to information on suspected terrorists activities in Rabah, Isa, Tangaza and Sabon Birnin LGAs of Sokoto State as well as Zurmi and Bukuyyum LGAs of Zamfara State. Additionally, troops conducted operations in Chikun LGA of Kaduna State. During the operations, troops neutralized 6 terrorists, arrested 2 terrorists and rescued one kidnapped hostage. Troops also recovered 3 AK47 rifles, one fabricated rifle, 59 rounds of 7.62mm special ammo, 23 rounds of 7.62mm NATO, 2 motorcycles and 3 mobile phones amongst others.

f. Meeting Engagement. On 23 May 2024, troops responded to info abou sighting of terrorists in large number in Bungudu, Maru, Illela, Gwadabawa LGA of Zamfara, Sokoto  State. Troops made contact with  terrorists. Following a fire fights, troops neutralized 14 terrorists. Sadly, 2 soldiers were killed in action and their weapons, while 2 locals were wounded in action. The corpses of the killed soldiers and the   wounded civilians were evacuated to Yariman Bakura Hospital Gusau for further action. During exploitation of the general areas, troops recovered 10 AK47 rifles, 3 dane guns, 192 rounds of 7.62mm special ammo, 36 rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammo. The operations disrupted the planned objectives of the terrorist and protected the locals from acts of terror from the terrorist. 

g. Terrorists Activities. On 23 May 2024, troops responded to terrorists activities in Gudu LGA of Sokoto State and made contact. Following a firefights, troops neutralized 11 terrorists and recovered 9 AK47 rifles, 2 fabricated rifles, 219 rounds of 7.62mm ammo 3 magazines and destroyed 6 motorcycles. 

13.    Air Interdiction.  On 13 May 2024, air component of Operation HADARIN DAJI conducted air interdiction on

large number of terrorists hibernating and conducting nefarious activities in Faskari  and Danmusa LGAs of Katsina State. The targets were acquired and engaged with rockets and cannons. Battle Damage Assessment revealed that several terrorists were neutralized and their logistics destroyed.

14. Similarly, on 19 May 2024, following ISR on uncovered camps of terrorists kingpins Kachalla Halilu and Jammo Smally in Anka and Maradun LGA of Zamfara State. The air component of Operation HADARIN DAJI conducted air interdiction on the locations. Battle Damage Assessment revealed that several terrorists including high ranking commanders were neutralized and their structures destroyed.


SUMMARY 

15. Overall, troops of Operation HADARIN DAJI neutralized 80 terrorists, 

arrested 20 terrorists and rescued 52 kidnapped hostages, Troops recovered 39 AK47 rifles, 11 fabricated rifles, 23 dane guns, 5 pump action guns, 3 locally made double barrel guns, one locally fabricated pistol, 581 rounds of 7.62mm special ammo, 397 rounds of 7.62mm NATO, 154 rounds of 7.62 x 39mm ball, 32 rounds of 9mm ammo, 132 live cartridges, 7 magazines, one baofeng radio, 11 motorcycles, 6 mobile phones and the sum of N311,050.00 only amongst others.


JOINT TASK FORCE OPERATION WHIRL PUNCH (NORTH WEST)

16. The troops of Operation WHIRL PUNCH recorded the following during the week under review; troops rescued kidnapped hostages, conducted ambushes, raid and offensive operations as well as arrested  violent extremists/terrorists in Kachia, Giwa, Chikun and Birnin Gwari LGAs of Kaduna State as well as AMAC, Bwari and Kuje Area Councils of FCT Abuja. Additionally, troops conducted operations in Suleja and Yagba East LGAs of Niger and Kogi States respectively.


17. Details are as follows;

a. Rescue of Kidnapped Hostages. 

(1)    On 13 May 2024, troops while conducting fighting patrol responded to information on activities of suspected violent extremists/terrorists in Chikun LGA of Kaduna State. During the operation, troops rescued 3 kidnapped hostages and recovered 3 motorcycles abandoned by fleeing terrorists.

(2)   On 19 May 2024, troops with DSS operatives responded to information on violent extremists/kidnapping incident in Bwari Area Council of FCT Abuja. During the operations, troops rescued 4 kidnapped hostages.

b. Ambush on Terrorists. On 15 May 2024, following reports, troops ambushed suspected violent extremists/terrorists and made contact in Birnin Gwari LGA of Kaduna State. Following a fire fight, troops neutralized 15 terrorists and recovered 10 AK47 rifles, 3 dane guns, 2 single barrel guns, 102 rounds of 7.62mm special ammo, 71 rounds of 7.62mm NATO, 32 rounds of 7.62 x 39mm ball, 3 motorcycles and 2 bicycles amongst others.

c. Raid Operation. On 15 May 2024, following a tip-off, troops raided a suspected violent extremists/terrorists hideouts in Chikun LGA of Kaduna State. During the operations, troops arrested 3 suspects and recovered 2 AK47 rifles, one magazine, one rifle butt and assorted charms amonsgt others.

d. Arrest of Violent Extremists/Kidnappers. 

(1)    On 14 May 2024, troops in separate operations arrested 2 suspected violent extremists/ kidnappers and informant in Bwari Area Council of FCT Abuja and Suleja LGA of Niger State respectively.

(2) Between 16 and 18 May 2024, troops in separate fighting patrols intercepted and arrested 4 suspected violent extremists/kidnappers informants in AMAC and Kuje Area Councils of FCT Abuja as well as Yagba East LGA of Kogi State. During the operations, troops recovered 2 locally made pistols, 11 live cartridges and a jack knife.

18.     Air Interdiction.  17 and 18 May 2024, air component of Operation WHIRL PUNCH conducted air interdiction on uncovered terrorists’ enclaves at Dogon Dawa and Kufita in Birnin Gwari LGA of Kaduna State.  ISR, observed the locations to be active with terrorists presence. Battle Damage Assessment revealed several terrorists were eliminated and their logistics structures  destroyed.


SUMMARY

19. Overall, troops of Operation WHIRL PUNCH neutralized 22 terrorists, 

arrested 17 suspects and rescued 18 kidnapped hostages. Troops recovered 12 AK47 rifles, 3 dane guns,  2 single barrel guns, 2 locally made pistols, one rifle butt, one magazine, 102 rounds of 7.62mm special ammo, 71 rounds of 7.62mm NATO, 32 rounds of 7.62 x 39mm ball, 11 live cartridges, 3 motorcycles and 2 bicycles amongt others.


JOINT TASK FORCE OPERATION DELTA SAFE (SOUTH SOUTH)

20. Troops of Operation DELTA SAFE maintained momentum against the activities of crude oil theft. Troops destroyed several illegal refining sites and recovered stolen products. Troops also  arrested militants, despatched fighting patrols and conducted raid operations in Odukpani LGA of Cross River, Ovia South-West LGA of Edo State and Brass LGA Bayelsa State.


21.     Details as follows:

a. Troops Destroy Illegal Refining Sites.  Troops recovered 1,047,050 litres of stolen crude oil and 205,550 litres of illegally refined AGO. Additionally, troops discovered and destroyed 22 dugout pits, 37 boats, 70 drums, 4 receiver, 4 reservoirs and 29 storage tanks.  Other items recovered include 215 cooking ovens, 13 vehicles, 4 wheelbarrows, one tricycle, one motorcycle, 5 mobile phones, one speedboat, 2 KYD radios, 2 outboard engines and 75 illegal refining sites.

b. Arrest of Suspected Sea Pirates. On 14 May 2024, maritime troops while on patrol intercepted and arrested 6 suspected violent extremists/sea pirates in Eastern Obolo LGA of Akwa Ibom State. During the operation, troops recovered 2 AK47 rifles, 3 magazines, 111 rounds of 7.62mm special ammo, 2 KYD Radios, one speed boat containing one 200hp and one 115hp engine, 5 mobile phones and the sum of ₦94,500.00. 

c. Raid Operation.  On 15 May 2024, following a tip off, troops with hybrid forces conducted raid operation and arrested 2 suspected violent extremists/kidnappers in Akpabuyo LGA of Cross River State. 

d. Counter/Anti Kidnapping and Criminality Op. 

(1)   On 20 May 2024, troops while on counter/anti kidnapping operations discovered a sack containing the sum of N1,119,500.00 only at the scene of kidnap incident in Uhunmwonde LGA of Edo State. Preliminary investigation revealed that the money was  ransom collected for a kidnap incident that occurred earlier on 18 May 2024.

(2) On 21 May 2024, troops while on patrol discovered hidden arms concealed in a bag in Etsako West LGA of Edo State. During the operations, troops recovered one AK47 rifle, one G3 rifle, one magazine, 2 x 5.56 Cal rifles and 7 pump action guns.


SUMMARY

22. Overall, troops of Operation DELTA SAFE recovered 1,047,050 litres of stolen crude oil and 205,550 litres of illegally refined AGO. Additionally, Troops discovered and destroyed 22 dugout pits, 37 boats, 70 drums, 4 receiver, 4 reservoirs and 29 storage tanks.  Other items recovered include 215 cooking ovens, 13 vehicles, 4 wheelbarrows, one tricycle, one motorcycle, 5 mobile phones, one speedboat, 2 KYD radios, 2 outboard engines and 75 illegal refining sites.

23. Troops apprehended 15 suspected oil thefts and other violent extremists. Troops recovered 4 magazines, 13 weapons, 111 assorted ammunitions and the sum of N1,119,500.00 only amongst others.


JOINT TASK FORCE OPERATION UDO KA (SOUTH EAST)

24. Troops of Operation UDO KA recorded the following during the week under review; troops arrested suspected violent extremists/IPOB/ESN, conducted offensive operations in Isiala-Ngwa and Orsu LGAs of Aba and Imo States respectively.

25.    Details as follows:

a. Arrest of Suspected Violent Extremists/ESN Notorious Kidnapper.

(1)   On 14 May 2024, following a tip-off, troops arrested a suspected violent extremist/wanted notorious kidnapper identified as.Chijioke Chidebere (aka Tete) in Oberete-Asa in Ukwa West LGA of Abia State. Preliminary investigation revealed that suspect to be the   gang leader of a notorious kidnapping squad that recently broke out of prison. The gang were recruiting IPOB combatants into the criminal syndicate.

(2)   Between 16 and 19 May 2024, troops in separate operations arrested 12 suspected violent extremists and notorious armed robber in Oru West and Orsu LGAs of Imo State as well as Anambra East  and Ihiala LGAs of Anambra States. Additionally, troops also conducted operations in Aninri and Ikwo LGAs of Enugu and Ebonyi States. During the operations, troops also recovered 3 locally made pistols, one pump action gun, 44 rounds of 9mm ammo, 32 live cartridges 2 pistols magazines, 3 motorcycles 4 mobile phones and sum of ₦1,200.00 only. 

b. Offensive Operations. Between 17 and 20 May 2024, troops in separate offensive operations made contact with violent extremists/IPOB/ESN members in Njaba and Ohaukwu LGAs of Imo and Ebonyi States as well as Aro-Ugwa Osisioma Ngwa and Isiala-Ngwa South LGAs of Abia States. Following a fire fight, troops neutralized 4 terrorists and arrested 5 suspected violent extremists. Troops recovered 2 AK47 rifles, 2 locally fabricated pump action guns, 2 magazines, 17 rounds of 7.62mm special ammo, one motorcycle and one mobile phone amongst others.


SUMMARY

26. Overall, troops of Operation UDO KA neutralized 13 terrorists, arrested 31 violent extremists and rescued 7 kidnapped hostages. Troops recovered 2 AK47 rifles, 2 locally fabricated pump action guns, 3 locally made pistols, 17 rounds of 7.62mm special ammo, 44 rounds of 9mm ammo, 32 live cartridges, 2 AK47 magazines, 2 pistol magazines, 4 motorcycles, 5 mobile phones and the sum of N1,200.00 only amongst other. All recovered items, arrested suspects and rescued hostages were handed over to the relevant authority for further action.
