The defence headquarters has hinted that over 200 athletes and 70 veterans will be participating at this 4th edition of it's Armed Forces half Marathon .
The Director of Sports, Air Vice Marshal Abidemi Timothy Maquis disclosed this while briefing press on plans ahead of the exercise scheduled to hold on 9th of December, 2023.
The Director Sport said veterans from the age of 55 are expected to partake in the forthcoming edition. He added that the exercise will help the Armed forces of Nigeria and other agencies interact and mingle to foster relationship, keep fit and discover talents.
Air vice Marshal Maquis also added that he his oblivious of the inconveniences resident living in the axis mapped out for the exercise may be facing but urge them to be cooperative. He similarly called on sport enthusiasts to use the opportunity to join the exercise .
Speaking on the prices for the winners, Air vice Marshal Marquis said a brand new car is up for the first position while cash proves are there for the second and third position.
When asked about the level of preparations, the Director said all is set for the marathon. He urged athletes to shun doping, disclosing that test will be done for athletes who emerges winner at the competition. He added that proper scrutiny will also be done to ensure participants don't recruit professionals just to take home the prize
